About Advanced Materials for Apparel, Textiles & Fabrics

SWM provides a diverse portfolio of films, nonwovens, netting, and composites used in apparel applications. Our various product lines are utilized in textile applications to bond, lightweight, separate and reinforce fabrics. From undergarments and outerwear, to footwear and high-performance gear, our materials can be tailored to meet specific performance requirements in apparel applications.

Our extruded and apertured films deliver advanced features and functionality to the apparel industry. Our films offer a high moisture vapor transmission rate (MVTR), breathablility and waterproof functionality while providing superior comfort to the end user. SWM films are ideally suited for lamination to fabrics. Manufacturers can create cost-effective textile composites in a single film-to-fabric lamination or multiple layers of film can be laminated together to create strong, durable, impact resistant textile composites.

Apparel Applications for SWM Advanced Materials:

  • Outerwear
  • Sportswear
  • Footwear
  • Smart-tech gear
  • Undergarments
  • High-performance
  • Protective clothing

Nonwoven apparel applications range from disposable products to traditional everyday use clothing. Manufacturers use our nonwovens to create disposable garments such as medical gowns, or they use our nonwovens to bond and reinforce other fabrics to create garments with specific functionality requirements. Our nonwovens can be customized to provide specific performance requirements including water absorbent, water resistant, elasticity and breathability.

Our netting can be used exclusively to reinforce materials, or it can be laminated with other substrates such as nonwoven, film, foil, foam, and other fabrics to create superior composites. Depending on the end-use, different netting characteristics can be altered to meet product specifications and functionality. We can modify netting attributes such as weight, thickness, strand count and stretchability to match our customers’ specification.

Composites are produced by combining different materials using techniques such as extrusion coating, extrusion lamination, thermal lamination, ultrasonic welding, wet and dry adhesive lamination and diverse nonwoven processes. Our products can be bonded to other substrates to create lightweight and strong composites with exceptional value-added features. Whether you are combining our materials to make a composite, or using them separately, we have a material solution.

Our in-house capabilities allows us to explore unusual, untested, out-of-the-box solutions for a wide range of clothing applications. Creating materials with fire retardant, waterproof, anti-microbial, insect repellent, chemical resistance, stretchability or fluorescent features are just some examples of the unlimited possibilities we can explore. Our R&D and engineering teams collaborate with customers to explore, test and experiment different netting configurations and additives to create truly unique components. Depending on your project requirement, the performance criteria for any of our products can be customized based on physical configuration and resin formulation.
