SWM International is proud to announce the release of its 2024 ESG Report, a comprehensive review of the company’s progress and commitments in driving sustainability across its global operations. Published under the theme “Innovating and Diversifying for a Sustainable Future”, the report highlights how SWM is embedding environmental, social, and governance (ESG) principles at the core of its strategy and growth.
At the heart of this journey is Thinpact, SWM’s ESG strategy, which is structured around six pillars: climate change, natural resources, eco-design, health & safety and DEI, sustainable procurement and ethics, and final consumer health. These pillars guide the company’s efforts to reduce environmental impact, strengthen social responsibility, and innovate solutions that help customers and industries transition toward a more sustainable future.
“This report reflects both the progress we have made and the ambition we continue to pursue. Sustainability is about innovation, responsibility, and long-term value creation, and we are determined to keep moving forward.” – Katrin Hanske, President & CEO of SWM International
Over the past year, SWM achieved a 9% reduction in energy intensity compared to 2021 and a 5% reduction in water intensity since 2020. The company advanced preparations for compliance with the EU’s Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) and continued its decarbonization roadmap, with a target of cutting Scope 1 & 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 55% by 2033.
Innovation remains a cornerstone of progress. In 2024, SWM expanded eco-designed solutions, including Evolute®, the world’s first TÜV-certified marine-biodegradable cigarette filter, which sets a new benchmark for sustainable alternatives to plastics. At the same time, more than 270 employees participated in climate training programs such as Climate Fresk, demonstrating SWM’s commitment to building knowledge and engagement throughout its workforce.
A major milestone this year was the completion of SWM’s first Double Materiality Assessment, ensuring the company not only complies with future EU Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) requirements, but also maintains transparency and accountability for stakeholders across its value chain.
The 2024 ESG Report underscores SWM’s commitment to being a leader in lightweight, sustainable solutions that reduce environmental impact while supporting customers and communities worldwide.
