A Continuous Commitment to Forest Protection

As a company already certified by the Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®) across all our sites, we have long adhered to the highest standards for responsible sourcing and forest management. Our FSC certification ensures that the raw materials we use are sourced from responsibly managed forests. More recently, as the European Union introduces the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR), we have actively aligned our approach and practices with this new legislative framework, further demonstrating our dedication to more sustainable operations and transparent supply chains.

SWM International reinforces its commitment to forest protection and formalizes it with a comprehensive No-Deforestation and No-Conversion Policy.

What does this mean in practice?

Wood pulp is a critical raw material in our operations. We have a responsibility. We must manage our supplies responsibly for forest and biodiversity protection. This policy ensures that none of it comes from areas where natural forests have been cleared or where ecosystems like grasslands, wetlands, or peatlands have been converted for industrial use after December 31, 2020.

This commitment to forest protection is complementary to concrete action already implemented such as the sourcing of 100% of our wood pulp from FSC- and/or PEFC-certified suppliers.*

Beyond environmental protection

At the same time the policy also reinforces our respect for human rights.

It includes the rights of Indigenous Peoples and local communities. Consequently, all our suppliers must comply with applicable laws regarding land tenure and indigenous rights, including the principle of Free, Prior, and Informed Consent (FPIC).

How are we ensuring compliance?

Our approach to ensure forest protection includes a series of good practices:

  • Risk management processes across the wood pulp supply chain
  • Chain of Custody certification
  • Regular audits by internal and third-party auditors
  • Training for employees and stakeholders involved in procurement processes
